4 Easy Ways to Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

July 12th, 2022 by
Nobody likes stopping at the fuel pump and watching their bank account drain. If you want to save money on gas, you’re not alone. From the greater Warsaw area to big cities across the nation, everyone’s tired of paying too much to get around. With gas prices at a record all-time high, here are four easy ways to improve your fuel efficiency.

1. Get Regular Engine Tune Ups

Getting engine tune ups can help your engine run smoothly. How often your vehicle needs a tune up can vary based on model, age, and mileage. Check your vehicle’s manual to find how often the manufacturer recommends getting engine tune ups. Tune ups include checking spark plugs, which is important because as they age it can put a strain on the ignition system causing the engine to use more fuel. Tune ups can include –
  • Fuel System Service –  Recommended every 30,000 miles. Toyota of Warsaw includes the cleaning of injectors, carbon off valves, and intake prompts.
  • Air Filters – Recommended every 20,000-30,000 miles or more if regularly driven on dirt roads.
  • Spark Plugs – Recommended every 120,000 miles.
  • Transmission Flushes – The misconception is that this will damage your transmission. The truth is- that isn’t true. Especially the way we do it. We use a machine that allows the car to pump out transmission oil using the transmission oil pump. The machine measures how much oil is pumped out and pumps new oil in at an even rate. This maximizes the lifespan and performance of your transmission.
Great fuel efficiency results from great maintenance and upkeep. Luckily, we service all makes and models. We use genuine Toyota parts, keeping your Toyota a Toyota.

2. Change Your Oil Regularly

You should always change your oil when recommended by the manufacturer, your service shop, or the sticker in the top left corner of your windshield.  If you don’t change your oil regularly, it can result in sludge, causing your engine to work harder and use more fuel. This could also lead to your engine breaking down. If you live in Warsaw, Winona Lake, or nearby areas, visit Toyota of Warsaw for oil changes and inspections in only 45-60 minutes. With all makes and models, we use Mobile1, the recommended Toyota oil.

3. Make Sure You Have the Correct Tire Pressure

Checking your vehicle’s tire pressure can help make sure your vehicle is running smoothly as well. If the tire pressure is off or if one tire has a higher or lower PSI (Pound Force Per Square Inch) than the others, your vehicle must compensate and use more fuel. You can find what PSI your tires should be at by checking the tire pressure chart sticker on the inside of the driver’s door a-frame.  Here at Toyota of Warsaw, we check tire pressure every time your car is serviced.

4. Drive Slowly & Conservatively

Slowing down is a great way to stay safe on northern Indiana roads and simultaneously save money on gas. Accelerating slowly and steadily will put less stress on your car’s engine, helping conserve gas and save money. Using cruise control, avoiding stop-and-go traffic, and braking gently are also great ways to conserve fuel.

Following these tips can improve your fuel efficiency and save you money. Taking care of your vehicle is a smart investment to keep you safe, keep your vehicle running, and improve fuel efficiency. You can have these services done here at Toyota of Warsaw. We service all makes and models so schedule your engine tune up, oil change, and more today!
